The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, and other visiting judges across the federation were on Thursday hosted to a dinner night to mark the end of the 2019 All Nigeria Judges held in Abuja.
The dinner which was at the instance of the National Judicial Institute, Abuja (NJI), the host of the 2019 edition had in attendance Justices of the Supreme Court, Justices of the Appeal Court and its President, Zainab Bulkachuwa, Chairman Education Committee, Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour and other eminent jurists in both the bar and the bench.
The theme of the conference is; Sustaining Democracy through Effective and Efficient Administration of Justice.
Giving a welcome address at the dinner, Vivour enjoined the Judges on the need to strengthen the Judiciary, assuring that their contributions at the conference would go a long way in helping them performing their judicial roles.
While making his own remarks, CJN Muhammad reiterated that the judiciary belongs to all Nigerians and not an individual, assuring that Judges in the country would have pass mark if they refused to be led astray.
He said, “Together, we will succeed in this onerous task but do give room for unnecessary distraction via wrong advice.
“The Judiciary belongs to all Nigerians and they are our own judges. Let them be able to judge us very well to have pass mark.
Speaking further, he said, “Knowing fully that you have gathered a lot of experience at these annual gatherings, please let us do the right thing while we urge our teachers and colleagues to assist us by drawing our attention to any shortcomings,”
The CJN nevertheless assured the gathering that the conference would be a yearly event in order to enable the judiciary plays its role effectively in the nation.
The speech was followed by a toast and all Night dinner and dance.
