Abuja

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared its preparedness to work with the government of Venezuela to advance social dialogue and decent work for workers.
The NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba disclosed this when the Venezuelan Ambassador to Nigeria, Miguelangel Della Veccinia and Foreign Affairs Minister, Jonge Anneaza, paid him a visit in Abuja, noting that both countries had lots in common.
“We have a lot of things in common with Venezuela and Cuba; therefore I am not surprised that you have deemed it fit to pay this courtesy call with continuation of your activities in Nigeria.
“For us the working class, we believe firmly in social justice everywhere around the world, and we believe also in shared prosperity, and rightly, this is what Venezuela has been able to do overtime.
“We are not unmindful of the current challenges affecting Venezuela and in spite of those challenges, I am sure Venezuela has remained focused, especially in the areas of managing its petroleum resources.
“We were on the same page with the unions of Venezuela and we try to look at how best we can do social dialogue to improve relationship, but importantly also, how to advance social justices and decent work,” he said.
The Venezuela foreign affairs minister, Jonge Anneaza lamented over President Trump’s threat to use military operations against the people of Venezuela.
He disclosed that the country would go for general elections in April, to ensure a lasting peace in the country.
“We are facing some challenges, such as President Trump of the United States of America, who has threatened our people with military operations, then sanctions were imposed against our people, our government; so it has been difficult and we are finding alternative routes with the help of many countries such as Russia, China, Turkey among others, because they know about this kind of blockage in the economy,” he said.
