NMC, MPN organise workshop for Maths teachers

THE National Mathematical Centre, in collaboration with Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited, the Operator of NNPC/MPN Joint Venture, has organised a workshop in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, for the re-training of Senior Secondary School Mathematics Teachers in the country.
According to statement signed by the head of Information, National Mathematical Centre, Mr. Onyekachi Njoku, and released to newsmen in Abuja at the weekend, the workshop was to update the knowledge of the teachers on the new curriculum with special emphasis on difficult concepts in the Senior Secondary School Syllabus. It was also aimed at improving the skills and competences of the teachers in the teaching and learning of the subject.

The General Manager, Public and Government Affairs, Mobil Producing Nigeria, Mr Enyinnaya Onokala, who spokes through   Mr Akaninyene Esiere, Manager, Public and Government Affairs; stressed that by supporting the training workshop the establishment is re-establishing this generation of mathematics teachers and equipping them with a strong foundation for the future.
Onokala stated that Mobil has in the past 20 years, provided substantial support to various communities, schools and organisations to boost Science, Technology, Education and Mathematics.

The Director and Chief Executive of the National Mathematical Centre, Professor Adewale Solarin represented by the Resident Consultant, Mathematics Improvement Project, MIP, Professor Lawal Adetula advised teachers to put into practice what they have learnt from the capacity building workshop. He gave the assurance that if the teachers understood what they were taught and imparts the same to the students, it will be difficult for the students to fail O level Mathematics.

The special guest of honour at the occasion and the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Education, Professor Atim Antai assured of the readiness of the state government to collaborate with willing partners to further train more teachers.
