NMS old boys empower 21 members, donate library to school

The Chairman of the 1973-78 set of the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria, Kaduna state, Major-General Sunday Adedapo Adebayo (retd) has said that the association has empowered 21 of its members.

Also, he said that the members of the set had also donated a well-furnished library to their Alma mata as a way of giving back to the school.

Adebayo, who spoke in an interview with newsmen yesterday ahead of the association’s reunion scheduled to hold on Saturday in Abuja, also announced that families of the late members of the association will be presented with cash awards at the event.

He, however, declared that the tomorrow’s reunion is scheduled to celebrate 32 members of the association who rose to the rank of a general or its equivalents in the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“I left the Nigerian Army about two years ago. When I was the Commander of Army Education Corps, I travelled to the school and I singlehandedly renovated a block of classrooms and the hotel for the school. Also, the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, also went there and renovated the kitchen of the school, reequipped it, and gave them some kitchen equipment.

“Then, the entire set has donated to the school a well-furnished library and we equipped it. Also, some of our members had gone there to do some renovations, built toilets and dormitories for the school.

“We did that for the school two years ago. Last year, we helped some of our colleagues who did not make it to some level. They were about 21  and we gave them money to set up themselves.

“But the tomorrow’s event is meant for the celebration of those who made it to the rank of general or its equivalents in the Nigerian Armed Forces. Our set produced 32 generals and its equivalents in the Armed forces. Unfortunately, we lost four of them last year.

“At the event, we will give awards to the awardees, while cash awards will be given to the wives and children of some of our mates who are dead in order to help the family. We thought that giving awards to the families of the dead may not may any sense’’, Adebayo said.
