Again, NNPC holds up FAAC meeting

The monthly Federation Accounts Allocations Committee (FAAC) failed to hold once again due to Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) inability to remit the appropriate amount into the government coffers. It will be recalled that last month, meeting could not hold due to the state oil corporation ability to reconcile account with the committee. It told the intervention of Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun before last month’s meeting could hold. The Committee had at the last meeting said it would meet with NNPC’s management to rectify the issue.
The states had agreed to collect last allocation distributed with the hope that the balance will be paid into their account this month. Fielding questions from the journalists present, Chairman of Commissioners Forum, Yinusa Mahmoud, disclosed that the meeting had to be postponed again because of NNPC’s inability to remit the right funds to the federal government. He further revealed that there is a very high level of deliberation going on between governor and top management of NNPC at the villa to reconcile the issue, which he described as a recurring decimal.
However, he fell short of saying the NNPC was being insincere in its accounting process to the corporation. He added, “Today is suppose to be FAAC but we heard that it has been adjourned.
You know sometimes we have reconciliation problem NNPC because the figures gotten was far less than what we expected should be remitted to the federal government. “There has always been a problem on the part of NNPC in remitting their fund and up till now the fund of last month has not been remitted completely.
“In the spirit of Easter we held a meeting, now even though we are looking at the plight of the workers that are supposed to receive their salary at when due, based on the submission, we have now some state cannot pay salary now so that is why the matter is being discussed at the highest level.
“The agreement is that nnpc should remit all their fund, why have they not being doing that I think this is one of the issues we are look at and I believed there will be progress. NNPC should do what they are suppose to do, they must remit all they have as it affect others stakeholders too,” he insisted
