No 2023 campaigns now –Masari

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina state has warmed that the APC-led administration in the state “will not accept campaigns for the 2023 general elections now.”

Masari gave the warning while speaking on Friday in Zango town during the disbursement of scholarship to post-secondary school students by the speaker of the House of Assembly, Alhaji Tasi’u Maigari Zango.

The governor said INEC had not lifted embargo on campaigns, therefore, it was wrong for people to start campaigning.

“Those who have started campaigning for 2023 are only trying to divide the people and distract the attention of government. We will not accept this,” he said.

He re-affirmed that the APC administration “will not hesitate in dealing with violators of no-campaign directives for now.”

On the scholarships, Masari commended the speaker for supporting education in his Zango constituency, but stressed that the responsibility of educating children “rest squarely on the shoulders of parents,” adding that the role of government was to provide enabling environment for learning.

In his remarks, the speaker said education was the major tool of eradicating poverty, disclosing that a total number of 1292 students benefitted from the scholarship scheme he introduced in his constituency.
