The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has assured candidates sitting for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that they would not be denied the opportunity of sitting for the examination.
JAMB’s head of public relations, Dr Fabian Benjamin, gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos following fears concerning a clash in the timetable of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and UTME.
According to the timetables, WAEC students who are expected to sit for Animal Husbandry on April 11 in the morning are also expected to sit for the UTME later on the same day.
“People have been talking about clashes between WAEC and JAMB timetable.
“We (JAMB) have met with the WAEC management and WAEC has just given us an assurance that there is no clash; that people don’t just understand the modus operandi of the timetable especially as it affects the practicals.
“The WAEC practicals are in sections. There is no clash at all so the allegation of a clash in timetable is unfounded and baseless,” Benjamin said.
He said WAEC had given them an assurance that it had accommodated all the fears of candidates in a way that practical subjects are scheduled in sections in such a way that there would not be any clash at all.
Similarly JAMB registrar, Professor Is’haq Oloyede, said at an interactive session with Editors in Lagos Tuesday that there is no basis for such speculation because the organisation was holding annual meetings with the examination bodies to reconcile areas of interest.
“We meet annually with WAEC, NECO and others to reconcile because we have the same target of education development,’’ he said.
He said those attacking him and the system out of ignorance would not succeed in distracting him from pursuing the target of ensuring national development through sound education for Nigerians.
The registrar said JAMB, under his leadership, was determined to clean the system with legitimate approach.
