The Competent Governance for Accountability and Civic Trust (CGACT), a non-governmental organisation, has declared the alleged certificate forgery report against a director at the national headquarters of the National Examination Council (NECO) as fake news.
The NGO said, after painstaking verification and fact finding on the alleged certificate forgery by an online media platform, it discovered that the report was a smear campaign to tarnish the reputation of the NECO director and should therefore be disregarded.
Convener of the non-governmental organisation, Amb. Adebayo Omoba Micheal in a press statement made available to Blueprint, Sunday, said “after verification and fact findings, Competent Governance for Accountability & Civic Trust discovered the allegation to be imaginary and cheap blackmail to rubbish a performing patriot and seasoned civil servant who has dedicated years to public service that should be commended and rewarded for dedicating his best to the growth of the examination council.”
The convener recalled that, on November 14, 2020, an online media had alleged that Mr Jacob Samuel Ekele, Director of Finance & Accounts at NECO headquarters in Minna, presented two PhD certificates to the Council in 2002 and 2017.
Amb. Omoba Micheal described the report as lacking in verifiable facts to prove the allegations, saying it was done to deliberately misinform the public.
He, therefore, asked all news sites that published the report to remove the publication with immediate effect and tender apology to the management of the Council and the director whose image was tarnished by the publication.
