No hiding place for rapists in Jigawa says Gov Badaru

Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has promised to implement and comply with the amended Jigawa state Penal Code’s Laws that make it impossible for a rapist to go free.

Under the amended laws, any person convicted of rape shall be liable to severe punishment with hard labour without an option of fine, or both.

While receiving the Emir of Dutse on Sallah homage, Governor Badaru said, “We must take measures in all its ramifications within our reach in eliminating the scourge of rape cases within our domain before it gets out of hands”.

He said the scourge of rape in the state is disturbing and a source of concern that need urgent and permanent solutions.

Badaru assured the Emir that his administration has resolved to ensure the prosecution of offenders, stressing that the judiciary need to be supported to enforce and implement the newly amended laws which spelt out severe punishment with hard labour on offenders.

Speaking earlier, the Emir of Dutse Alh Nuhu Muhammad Sunusi complained bitterly on the rampant cases of rape that has engulfed the state and called for government legislation to curtail the menace.
