Contrary to the widely circulated rumour that the Kano state government was planning to sell the newly built multi-million naira Ginginyu and Zoo Road General Hospitals in Kano, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, has confirmed that there was no plan to sell the two hospitals.
Speaking to newsmen in Kano yesterday, Getso said the rumour was only orchestrated to “create unnecessary controversy at the time the Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration is working round the clock to improve health care delivery services in fulfilment of his campaign promises.”
According to him, the Gingiyu and Zoo Road hospitals is a high-profile project initiated and eventually abandoned and taken over by the Ganduje administration which has ensured its successful completion.
He noted that it would be fool-hardy for one to believe that the rumour bandied about as regards to its disposal was justifiable.
On routine polio immunisation exercise, Getso said “strong social mobilisation structures have been put in place to ensure effective polio communication activities at all levels,” adding that the health ministry was willing to engage thousands of community-based volunteers whose work “has tremendously improved community mobilisation strategies in addressing non-compliance cases.”
He said the Ganduje administration was fully committed to polio eradication through the provision of quarterly budgetary allocations to all its 44 local government areas to ensure successful conduct of immunisation campaigns.
He said the state was conducting Measles Vaccination Campaign “which will take place in two streams,” adding that the “first stream covering 22 LGs will take off from November 2 to 7, while the remaining 22 LGs will take off from November 7 to 14, 2017.
Getso reaffirmed the commitment of the Ganduje administration to improve health care services delivery, stressing that the governor had demonstrated “his unwavering commitment to improving the health sector through various initiatives and intervention programmes being implemented in the sector.”
