The senator representing Kano south Senatorial District, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, has said that no amount of postponing the election could stop the All Progressives Congress (APC) from winning the presidential election and that the postponement had cast a slur on INEC to conduct credible elections.

Speaking to news men in kano Gaya wondered why such a postponement should be effected without consulting the National Assembly adding that in an ideal democratic setting the notion of checks and balances must be respected.
According to him, it is not the responsibility of the military to interfere in the nation’s electoral process and that the military institution is only saddled with the task of defending the territorial integrity of the country.

“Even if the election is going to be postponed one thousand times nothing could stop the victory of the APC. We are ready to call the bluff of anyone behind the gimmick. We are going to win the elections from top to bottom because the electorate are fed up with a lame-duck Presidency.”

He however stated that since the Independent National Electoral Commission had lost its grip as an impartial arbiter the chief servant of the Commission would be summoned by the Senate to explain its role in effecting the decision to shift the elections.

“The Senate is resuming on Tuesday and we are going to summon Jega to appear before us. We want to know the rationale behind the postponement and we are going to take action.”
