No reason for Democracy Day celebrations – Tsav, APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Benue state chapter, has urged the people of the state to ignore any call from any quarters for the celebration of this year’s Democracy Day.

They insisted that there was virtually nothing to celebrate after 15 years of uninterrupted democracy, adding that a good government would have used the period to make the country great.
A former Commissioner of Police in Lagos state, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, also said “anyone who thinks there is need for celebration must have either been deceived enough or his senses failing him/her.”

Secretary of the APC, Hon. Onov Tyuulugh, in a statement in Makurdi urged APC members nationwide to use the day to mourn the nation’s youth whose future had been completely destroyed by the mindless closure of schools for fear of Boko Haram.
He said: “Nigerians have no reason to celebrate democracy in the face of the ineptitude and almost complete absence of governance by President Jonathan as demonstrated in his inability to rescue the Chibok school girls and his incapacity to contain the slaughter of Nigerians by the devilish Boko Haram adding that the PDP has indeed become a partner of the evil Boko Haram in ensuring that Nigerians know no peace.”
Tsav, on his part, called on Nigerians to rather fly flags at half mast to mourn the “state of the failure of our nation.”

He said: “I don’t think we have anything to celebrate on the so-called Democracy Day, especially considering the general insecurity in the country.
“Worse still, the ravaging incidents of corruption waste of resources in the land and the entrenchment of a culture of impunity has turned Nigeria to a lawless society under Goodluck Jonathan.”
He added: “The first verse of our National Anthem ends with Peace and Unity; unfortunately, these are lacking due to bad leadership.  There is nothing to celebrate at all.”
