No rift with Obaseki – Oshiomhole

National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-governor of Edo state Tuesday said the alleged rift between himself and his successor, Governor Godwin Obaseki is the creation of people with personal interest.

Oshiomhole also said it was unfortunate that the media like creating factions for their own gain.

The ex-Edo governor stated this Monday night when he received governor Obaseki who led members of his cabinet to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir Festival with him at his Iyamoh residence in Estako West Local Government Government Area of the state.

Oshiomhole who described Obaseki as his brother after a closed-door meeting said said the meeting was not unusual as he was in constant touch with the Obaseki.

According to him, “from time to time, we have always been meeting. It is not an unusual visit, the meeting afforded me the opportunity to meet with my brother and with people I have worked with.”

Also speaking, Obaseki said the visit was to celebrate Edo leaders just as the former APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, was celebrated by the state earlier in the day.

“There is nothing unusual about this meeting; today is Sallah and we have just finished celebrating with the former APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun in Benin City, and we decided to come here to celebrate Sallah with my predecessor,” the governor said.

The relationship between both men had allegedly broken down after nine out of 24 members-elect of the State Assembly were secretly inaugurated at midnight on June 21.

The nine members are believed to be loyalists of governor Obaseki and have emerged speaker and principal officers of the House.

Fourteen other members-elect who are believed to be loyal to ex-governor of the state, thereafter petitioned the National Assembly.
