‘No serving corps members quarantined for monkey pox’

Management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has debunked the news that a corps member was quarantined in Benue state for suspected infection with monkey pox, saying the report was false.
A statement from the Scheme at the weekend stated that the only person quarantined in Benue state was an ex-corps members who served with the 2016 Batch ‘B’ (Stream One) and had since successfully completed the National Service.
“Our findings showed that the quarantine was based on suspected contact with an infected person, but the result of test carried out on the Corps member eventually came out negative.
“We wish to assure parents, guardians and the rest of the public that no serving Corps member in Benue state is quarantined for monkey pox at the moment,” the statement read in part.
The Scheme, therefore, assured “Nigerians, especially parents, of the safety of their wards,” stating that it had been sensitising the corps members on monkey pox and other diseases through several means.
“Management further assures that the NYSC and authorities in the health sector are promoting awareness on Monkey Pox and other diseases among corps members, especially through pamphlets that are published and distributed by the Scheme. We wish our corps members safe stay in all service locations nationwide.”
