No shortcut to success, varsity don tells Nigerians

Head of Linguistics and Communication Studies Department University of Portharcourt (UNIPORT), Prof. Aniefiok Udoudo, has charged Nigerian youths to study and work hard in their bid to attain good success with no short cut.

Udoudo spoke at a thanksgiving service on Saturday, in his honour, at Church of Christ, Ebom Avenue, Abak, on his promotion to the rank of a Professor at UNIPORT.

Prof. Aniefiok said he grew up with his parents, who had no formal education, and was inspired by teachers in a primary school and principal in his village and local government area.

He said he practiced journalism for few years, and that he was happy to live his dream of becoming a teacher in Journalism.

He advised people never to give up, and to believe in education.

He further said Christians still need education to be a good Christians.

“One of my greatest challenges in the teaching profession is that students misconstrue my person, and feel that I am too strict,” he said.

Friends and colleagues who thronged the Independence hall, Abak, for the reception, were full of praises for Prof. Udoudo, and thanked God for his elevation.
