NOA cautions Nigerians on hate speeches

National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to desist from making hate speeches and comments capable of triggering crises and building the foundation of hatred among the citizenry. In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Kogi state directorate of NOA, Malam Mohammed Othman Abdullahi, in Lokoja, yesterday, the Acting Director maintained that the implications and the consequence of hate speeches “are so devastating and dangerous,” noting that it had led to many calamities in diff erent parts of the world.

While advising that Nigerians should tolerate one another by embracing peace and love, the NOA boss cautioned people against making comments that would endanger the nation peaceful coexistence. According to the statement, “the Nigerian motto which is unity, peace and progress must not be compromised in any form.” Th e statement called on the youth to make sure that hard work, discipline and obedience to constituted authority be their watchword at all times as leaders of tomorrow. He urged the general public, especially the youth, to disregard the agitations made by some ethno-religious interests which led to illegal quit notice and counter order against some communities, describing it as the “handiwork of some mischief makers for their selfi sh interests
