NOC elections: Gumel planning to disqualify some candidates, group alleges

A group under the aegis of United Sports Stakeholders (USS) has revealed plans by the incumbent President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr.Habu Gumel, to disqualify some candidates in the forthcoming election billed for Jalingo,Taraba state next week.

A statement from the spokesman of the group, Comrade Sylvanus Ofekun, on Thursday December 8, 2022 alleged that Engr. Gumel had perfected plans to return without any challenge before constituting the electorial committee.

The statement added that “upon discovering that he will be facing several oppositions in Taraba state, the septuagenarian has now perfected plans to disqualify some leading aspirants as he is now mounting pressure on the electorial committee to disqualify some of the leading candidates.”

The group said that it has petitioned relevant government agencies “about the old fox tactics being employed by the outgoing NOC President.”

The group has now resolved to “seek legal help inorder to retire the man who has grounded sports in Nigeria.”
