Noise pollution law violators risk prosecution – AEPB warns

Following a spate of complaints by residents and concerned stakeholders within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), violators of the Federal Capital Territory Laws against noise pollution are reminded that they risk prosecution.
Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), has warned operators of Nightclubs and social relaxation gardens in Abuja to bear no noise pollution in the territory in other to avoid the full weight of the law.
“The Law prohibits noise level above 75 decibels for day time and 50 Decibels for night time for commercial areas; and 60 Decibels for day time and 40 Decibels for night time in residential Areas.
“This means noise generated should not go beyond its immediate environment but it has come to the notice of AEPB that these laws are observed in the breach.
“The consequences are that residents are exposed to increase in stress levels, high blood pressure, sleeplessness, long term adverse effects on hearing, increased irritability and decreased productivity in the work place.

The AEPB therefore warns that violators of noise pollution laws in the FCTA risk prosecution.
