Non performance: Kano govt rovokes N5. 3bn road projects from contractors

Kano state government has revoked contract for the construction of four major road projects worth N5. bn in the state.


The roads are phase two dualisation of Kofar Dawanau-Dandinsh-Kwanar Madugu road awarded to TIAMIN Multi Services Global at the sum of N1, 255, 606, 028.49 billion; dualisation of 5km roads in Ungogo and Warawa local governments awarded at the sum of  N1, 487, 482, 688.30 and N1, 204, 783, 620.67 respectively awarded to FNL Engineering limited.


Other road contracts revoked are roads  lnking Kofar Sidi Ahmad to Kofar Dan ‘iya Aminu and Kofar Wambai;  Kwarin Akuya, Dan Rimi, Sabon Birni Kurnar Asabe in Bichi and Fagge  local government areas respectively awarded to Messrs Tiamin Multi Services Ltd. at total sum of N357, 693, 159.10 million.


Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council Meeting, Thursday in Kano, the state Commissioner for Information, Youth and Culture, Malam Muhammad Garba said the road projects in Bichi and Fagge were awarded on August 2, 2017 and November 13, 2017 with completion period of four months and 14 months respectively.


 He said the contracts were revoked upon the expiration of contractors’ inability to complete the projects despite collecting respective advance payments of N204, 327, 916.69 and N96, 276, 398.50.


Malam Garba also said that the council also approved the payment of N198, 550, 000.00 for Postgraduate Research Grant to Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil and the sum of N60, 000, 000.00 million for the university to conduct its 5th Convocation and investiture of the vice chancellor.


He said the sum of N55, 000, 000.00 million was okayed for the procurement of solar power facilities in 10 selected health centres in the state, while approval has also been given for the conduct of general renovation works at National Diarrheal Training Unit located at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.


The commissioner pointed out that the council has approved the release of N30, 382, 005.94 for the construction of drainages and related measures to address problems of floods at Saya Saya town in Albasu local government as well as the sum of N38, 904, 640.00 for the construction of Ado Bayero Road Network, Dorayi Babba in Gwale local government area.


Malam Garba announced that approval of $63, 000 has been given for the payment of books, health services dining and visa renewal fees in respect of 14 state sponsored MBBS at SSIMS and RC, Davangree, India and payment of $15, 000 one way ticket in respect of 15 state sponsored pharmacy and radiology students who graduated from Six October University. 


It also approved the release of N201, 994, 738.76 million for the construction of Odutola Street in Sabon Gari of Fagge local government area. 


He said the council has also approved N34, 693, 788.00 million for the expansion of Bichi Township water supply, while the sum of N19, 967, 700.00 million has been okayed for the conduct of 2018/2019 Mass Livestock Vaccination Exercise, Rabies in dogs Contagious Bovine Pleuro-Pneumonia (CBPP) in cattle and Paste Des Petit Ruminant (PPR) in sheep and goat.


Malam Muhammad Garba also announced that approval of the sum of N15, 160, 000.00 million has been given for the conduct of IJMB examination, affiliation and marking fees for 2018/2019 session at Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso College of Art and Remedial Studies (CARS), Tudun Wada.


The commissioner also stated that N20, 058, 000.00 million has been approved for the conduct of the 2019 IJMB examination scheduled between February January 29 and February 19 at the state College of Education and Preliminary Studies.
