North-east: Dangote bags NUJ top award

Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has named the Dangote Foundation as the recipient of its Platinum Award for being the highest donor to the North-east having been plagued by crisis caused by insurgency. Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima, presented the award on behalf of the NUJ to the Dangote Foundation’s Chief Executive Offi cer, Zouera Youssoufou, at a ceremony in Maiduguri. Shettima said the Foundation contributed positively towards the reconstruction of Borno state, as well as rehabilitation and resettlement of victims of the humanitarian crisis in the Northeast. While congratulating the Foundation, he singled out the Dangote Group’s President Aliko Dangote for commendation, saying he had visited the State several times since the insurgency began.

He described Alikoye Dangote as “a friend indeed”, while Youssoufou announced a N5 million donation for NUJ rebuild its secretariat in Maiduguri. National President of the NUJ Abdulwaheed Odusile, thanked the Dangote Foundation for its gesture and described this year’s NUJ Press Week as a pointer to the fact that peace has returned to Borno state. It would be recalled that Dangote had earlier announced a staggering donation of N2billion for the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno state.
