Kaduna state governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, King Alfred Diette Spiff, former Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Danhiru Muhammad and Finance Minister, Zainab Shamsuna, are among prominent Nigerians to be honoured by Northeast/Our Nigeria newsmagazine for their contribution to national development.
This is contained in a press statement signed and made available to journalists Monday by the chief executive officer of the magazine, Ahmad A. Umar. He said the North-east Star and Our Nigeria news magazine would collaborate to organise their 2019 awards.
He stated that the publishers, board and management of the two news media platforms had ratified the nomination of some distinguished personalities to be considered for the awards which have become a regular event since 2016.
Some of the past recipients of the awards include Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, Hon Yakubu Dogara, Lt. Gen T. Y Danjuma, Dr M. K Dikwa and Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, just to mention a few.
He said this year’s awardees include eminent personalities and distinguished Nigerians such as IGP Abubakar D. Mohammed (rtd), as Man of the Year 2019, the recipient of this year’s Nelson Mandela Award for Public Service is Mrs Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai will receive the Best Governor of the Year award, General Sarham ,the new Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy and former General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army will be honoured with the prestigious Collin Powell’s award for Soldiering while Governor Darius Ishaku will receive the award of recognition for his efforts in grassroots development, youth empowerment and peace building.
Others are Alhaji Aliyu Umar and Dr Abdulaziz Ibrahim who will be conferred with the Kyari Dikwa Excellence Award in Public Financial Management. Their track record in public financial management in the NNPC and the National Hospital contributed to the entrenchment of probity and fiscal discipline in the institutions.
