Following the recent attacks in Southern Kaduna, where scores of people were killed in cold blood, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has declared that the North was engulfed in “raging fire that may spread to other parts of the country if the insurgency is not nipped in the bud now.”
Addressing reporters yesterday in Kaduna, JNI Secretary General, Dr Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, said Nigerians must rise up against the crisis that was threatening to consume the country.
He added that the insecurity that had held the North-east in a vice grip had gradually spread to Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Benue, Nasarawa and Kaduna states “where people have suffered incessant killings and vicious attacks.”
He said: “Nigeria is drifting towards serious situation of violent conflicts, insecurity and destruction. The whole North is on fire. While the northeast is engulfed by recurrent killings and bombings in the name of Boko Haram; in Birnin Gwari (Kaduna state), some parts of Zamfara, Kebbi and other parts of the North-west, the killings are perpetrated by unidentified criminals.
“In Benue state, it is Tiv/Fulani conflict which has long been hijacked by terrorists and political criminals, while in Nasarawa state it is Ombatse, and few days ago various attacks were reported in Kaduna, Taraba and the most recent Giwa Barracks attack, in Maiduguri, Borno state. We must also express our worry about the recent unfortunate happenings in southern part of Kaduna state.
“Now the insecurity has taken a new and equally dangerous dimension in Katsina state (Faskari), where the hitherto united Hausa and Fulani are being set against each other despite the long warning about the possibility of the clash.
“JNI wishes to call on all Nigerians, Muslims and non- Muslims, northerners and southerners, to ponder over these overwhelming challenges. Nigerians must think together and take positive steps towards salvaging our dear nation. We must see this insecurity as a challenge to all and understand that these spates of bombings and incessant killings, if not immediately stopped, would engulf the entire nation in a manner that we will all regret.”
