Northern govs to meet over killings April 22

An emergency meeting of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has been scheduled for April 22, 2014, at the Niger state Governor’s Lodge, Jose Marti Crescent, Asokoro, Abuja.

A statement by the Secretary to the Government of Niger state and Coordinating Chairman, Forum of Secretaries to the Government of Northern States, Hon. Saidu Ndako Idris Kpaki, said the meeting was called out of concern to address the incessant attacks and systematic killings of innocent people going on in the region which has become a source of embarrassment and great concern to the Forum.

The statement further explained that the meeting would discuss the increasing incidences of clashes between Fulani Herdsmen and local communities as well as reckless massacre and kidnapping of people across the Northern States.

Kpaki reiterated the Forum’s commitment to put an end to the unacceptable wanton carnage and security challenges that is bedeviling the region through collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

The coordinating chairman said the NSGF meeting would be preceded by the meeting of the Forum of Secretaries to the Governments of Northern States.
A communiqué would be issued at the end of the meeting by the Secretary to the Government of Niger state and Coordinating Chairman, Forum of Secretaries to the Governments of Northern States.
