Northern group berates ministerial list

The Arewa Youth Coalition has berated the ministerial list submitted by President Mohammed Buhari for confirmation by the Senate.

The group said it opted to kick against the list because most names on the list were not only known faces who failed to perform in the first tenure but have baggage which should automatically disqualified them from being reappointed.

According to the group’s national president Comrade Muktar Mohammed, most of the nominees who are currently being screened and confirmed by the senate, ought have been part of the new team to form the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The youth group lamented the exclusion of young and dynamic leaders in the list submitted by the president, adding that the exclusion clearly indicates that the administration of President Buhari does not have the youth in mind.

Further, he said the president disappointed Nigerian youth because only old horses and well-known faces made the minister’s list. The group said some of those in the list should at best play an advisory instead of being vested with ministerial responsibilities.

“All the names released were either former governors, ministers, deputy governor, or those that held political offices in the past administrations. Some are even facing corruption charges in court but yet the president decided to submit their names for confirmation.

“Honestly as youth organization, we are not happy with the list and we rejected it because none of the nominees is under 40 years. They are same people we know while growing up. The question is when will the youth be given a chance to also rule or govern this country?” he asked.

Also, he said the president by his failure to include the youth in his cabinet has reneged on his promise not only to carry them along but make active participants in his administration by appointing them ministers.

In the 43-man list forwarded to the senate Tuesday, the group said the president was somewhat favourably disposed to women that had no fewer than seven in the list.
