Northwest: Sports stakeholders appeal to philanthropists, corporate bodies for sponsorship

 

The Northwest Directors of Sports have appealed to philanthropists, corporate bodies, business moguls and wealthy individuals to invest in sports as a business to develop youth and end vices.

The sports stakeholders also appealed to the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to allow states to use sponsors logos when they are participating at national competitions, as a sign of appreciation to their sponsors. 

These were contained in a communique issued at the end of Northwest Sports Stakeholders Meeting, jointly signed by the  Zonal Coordinator, Northwest Zone, Alhaji Idris Abdullahi and the Director of Sports, Katsina state/Chairman, Northwest states, Directors of Sports, Alhaji Nalado Iro Kankia, made available to newsmen on Thursday.

The communique also announced the  endorsement of Engr. Dr. Musa Nimrod as the sole candidate for representation in the Board of Nigerian Volleyball Federation, while noting that non performing zonal representatives are strongly advised to stay aside as the zone will only vote credible and competent persons to the boards of various sports federations.

The meeting lauded efforts of the “Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development under the technical, tactical and innovative Hon. Minster of Youth and Sports, Chief Sunday Dare and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Nebolisa Anako for resuscitating the National Principal Cup and the Headmasters Cup from comatose”.

They also commended the efforts of Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and Kano states governments towards sports and facilities development and advised Sports Federations members to work in harmony in the general interest of developing the sector. They resolved to intensify grassroots sports development programmes, competitions at states level to feature identified talents at youth grades competitions: National Principal Cup, National Youth Games etc.

North West stakeholders commended the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and that of Edo state government on the successes recorded at the 20th National Sports Festival despite constraints and series of postponements.

“Sokoto state to host maiden edition of Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna Sokoto U-17 Soccer Championship. Katsina state to host Coaching Clinic on Weightlifting and third Quarter Meeting of Directors of Sports. Kebbi state to Host the 6th edition of National Youth Games Zonal Teams Sports Elimination. Jigawa state to host U-17 Women Volleyball Championship from 24th – 27th June, 2021,” they said.
