#NotTooYoungToRun bill: Youths march to Aso Rock demanding presidential assent

Thousands of youths yesterday marched to the entrance of the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, demanding presidential assent to the NotTooYoungToRun bill.
The march had over 50 groups participated in the procession, which caused heavy vehicular traffic around the Federal Capital Territory’s Central Area.
The bill which has already been passed by the National Assembly and over 26 state House of assemblies across the nation, is awaiting presidential assent Speaking at the event, the executive director of YIAGA, Samson Itodo, said the rally was organised to demand the participation of young people in Nigeria’s political process.
He said: ‘”With the passage of the bill, we expect more youth with capacity and integrity will seek to political office.
”Whilst noting that the parties provide a platform for the actualisation of political aspirations, we also note that parties can undermine and jeopardise youth candidacy at elections.
”It is therefore important to reiterate the need for political parties to ensure internal party democracy to safeguard the emergence of youth candidates in the 2019 elections.
“For the record, this demand is driven by the compelling need to restructure the country’s political system to address the deeply entrenched system of political exclusion and institute inclusive politics, transformative leadership and electoral competitiveness in the electoral process.
