NPFL: 20 Clubs get N10m take off grant as IMC postpones league matches 

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) in conjunction with the league sponsors, GTI Group, on Thursday January 5, 2023 presented a cheque of N200m each to the twenty Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as take off grant for the 2022/23 NPFL season.

The cheque was received by Barrister Isaac Danladi on behalf of the Clubs at the Sandralia Hotel after series of drama and intrigues by the Clubs who initially walked out of the venue when the programme was half way on despite the fact that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau was on the seat and some other executive board members of the federation.

After series of plea, the Clubs led by the NFF 1st Vice President,  Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, Isaac Danladi and few others came back to the venue of the ceremony to received the cheque with the sponsors aghast by the effrontery of the Clubs who are protesting whether to play abridged league or not.

NFF president, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, promised that ‘it will not be business as usual as the league will witness many innovations and be attractive and conducive to all. He promised to look into the grievances of all the stakeholders including the match officials’

Speaking on behalf of the Club, Barrister Isaac Danladi, thanked the IMC and the sponsors for the money and promised that the clubs will go ahead with the league starting on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a staff of the IMC (name withheld) has been arrested by the men of the Nigeria Police Force for stealing official documents. 

The man Blueprint correspondent learnt was about to bolt away with some files of the IMC when he was caught red-handed and handed over to the police for more investigation.

Meanwhile, the league organisers have revealed that only the match involving Akwa United and Bendel Insurance will go on as scheduled on Sunday January 8, 2023, while other nine game will be postponed by one week.
