NPFL: Akwa Utd keep in shape, as break lingers over COVID-19


There was no dull moment at the camp of Akwa United football Club of Uyo as some of the players who didn’t travel for the Covid-19 induced break engaged each other in various games and sporting challenge.


Among those who are still in camp include; goalkeeper Jean Efala, defenders Denis Nya, Godspower Igudia and Kodjovi Dadzie. Midfield trio of Dare Ojo, Ukeme Williams and Ubong Essien as well as strikers Ocheme Edoh and Okechukwu Nwani.


Inspite of the break, the players who have been engaging in series of personal physical trainings within the camp, staged a what they called ” Star of the Camp Challenge”
After putting up some eye-catching display in the Table-Tennis event, striker Ocheme Edoh emerged the champion after defeating Dare Ojo 3-0. Dare Ojo came second following his 3-1 victory of Denis Nya.
In joggling the ball contest, the duo of Godspower Igudia and Ikechukwu Nwani defeated Ubong Essien and Kodjovi Dadzie by 25 points to12.
Midfielder Ukeme Williams showed his knowledge of the draught game when he faced the media manager Mfon Patrick, who took time to teach the former Wikki Tourists midfielder some smart moves on the checkers board, beating him by three games to two.
The general atmosphere in camp was lively and was further lifted when the Chairman Elder Paul Bassey made a brief stop over at the camp. Elder Bassey who was captivated by the players engagement in various games, said, he was impressed that despite the lock down on all football activities around the world, that his players were still able to engage themselves positively with physical and mental games.
