Ahead of the September 9 kickoff of the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) 2023/24 season, the General Manager of Heartland FC of Owerri, Promise Nwachukwu has disclosed that the side is ready to present a solid and formidable team that will contest for title when the season gets underway next week across different venues in the country.
Heartland will travel to Makurdi to face off with Lobi Stars in Day 1 of the NPFL 2023/24 season.
Nwachukwu who spoke in Abuja, Tuesday evening ahead of the NPFL draws told our correspondent that our last outing in the NPFL was disastrous due to poor preparation but right now, I can categorically tell you that we are more than ready for the season.
“A lot of people are of the opinion that we are using money to win our matches in the NNL but during the Super 6 in Asaba, everybody can see the quality and the hard work we have put in place to present a fearsome team that will be talk of the town when the season gets underway,” he said.
The Naze Millionaires GM, who was elected unopposed as the co-ordinator of the Club Owners in Abuja insisted that the state government has given them adequate support to start preparation early and he will do a great job to reposition the Club Owners.
“Throughout last season we are unbeaten in the NNL but a lot of people thought we are joking or using money to buy our matches until we came to Super 6 in Asaba where we proved ourselves. Right now, we have done quality recruitment and put in place a formidable team that will be difficult to beat,” he said.
Nwachukwu thumbed up Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye led NPFL board as doing a wonderful job and should be supported by all well meaning Nigerians to take the league to the next level.
He however confessed that several of the Clubs managers are not comfortable with abridged league because of fears of relegation.
“Once your lose a match at home and another one on away ground you’re automatically a candidate of relegation this is the fear of the Clubs and that’s why they jettisoned the abridged league” he concluded .
Nwachukwu an ex-player assisted Emeka Iwuagwu as Assistant Team Manager during the days of Chief Okehialam as Heartland’s chairman. He rose to become the Team Manager under Chief Fan Ndubuoke winning five trophies in two years which included two FA Cup back to back triumphs in 2011and 2012.
He rose to the position of sporting director and later General Coordinator at Heartland before ascending the stairs to become GM two years ago.
