NPFL new football season kicks off September 20 as league returns to regular format

The 2019/20 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season is expected to commence on Sunday, September 20, 2019.

According to the Chief Operating Officer of the League Management Company (LMC), the upcoming season will end on May 17, 2020.

The league is expected to take a break from December 30 to January 10.

LMC has also drawn out the calendar for the season that is to be played in a full format with a total of 20 teams.

The NPFL will be returning to its original 38-match format after the abridged 2018/19 system that saw a champion being determined after a post-season playoff tournament.

However, the newly released NPFL time-table is subject to further ratification from the club owners association and the players union.

Enyimba Football Club clinched their eighth Nigeria Professional Football League title after defeating Akwa United 3-0 in the “Super Six” play offs fixture at the Agege stadium on Wednesday.

The Elephants of Aba finished top of the championship play-offs with 12 points after five matches.
