NPFL: Rangers’ll be ready for new season – Ogunbote

2016 Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Enugu Rangers head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, has disclosed that his team is gradually taking shape ahead of the 2017/2018 new season, kicking off on January 14 across the federation. Ogunbote took charge of the Flying Antelopes in October after the club failed to extend the contract of interim coach Sylvanus Okpala at the end of last season.

The seven-time NPFL champions won the title two seasons ago but faltered last term finishing in 14th position and paving way for Plateau United to be crowned champions The Enugu club have played series of friendly games to prepare for the new campaign and Ogunbote who led Enyimba to a third place finish in the NPFL last season is confident they will get things soon.

“We are not there yet, but I can say the team is taking shape ahead of the new season,” the former Sunshine Stars gaffer revealed to our correspondent yesterday “The friendly matches have aff orded me the opportunity to see the strengths and weaknesses of the team and it is important we get things right before January 14.

“We still have some weeks left before the new season starts and I’m confi dent we will be where we want to be.” Th e Coal City outfit who have beefed up their squad with the likes of Olufemi Th omas, James Aiyeyemi, Isaac Loute, Brown Okpus and Ugonna Anyaora will open a twoweek training camp at Ijebu ode on December 28. Their opening game of the season is against Akwa United on January 14 at the Godswill international Stadium, Uyo
