NPFL: Remo Stars relegated, return to NNL, Enyimba on course for elite play-off

Coach Usman Abdalla described his Enyimba as “excellent” after they held hosts Remo Stars to a goalless draw to stay on course for a place in the championship playoffs.

The draw meant a prompt return to the second-tier NNL for Remo Stars.

“The boys gave their best. I think they responded well and they understood the implication of the draw we had last week (against Wikki Tourists),” Abdalla said.

“You can see the attitude, the gut. The only change I did was about five minutes to go. I think all the 11 players were there, out to finish the game because everybody gave his best. Excellent performance.

“Unfortunately we finished with a draw but it’s a good result. At least we got one point and we are still hanging in the third position.

“If we can finish the rest of the matches at that position it’s very good because that’s all we need.”

Enyimba have 30 points from 20 matches, but they have to watch carefully the likes of MFM FC and Rivers United if they are to hold on to third spot to reach the Super 6.
