NPFL: Why Kano Pillars defeated Plateau Utd – Official

Chairman/ Chief Executive of Kano Pillars FC, Alhaji Suraju Shaibu Yahaya, has described the team’s performance on Wednesday in the NPFL matchday four tie against defending champions, Plateau United as lackluster.

The Sai Masu Gida, who play their home match at Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna, defeated the Jos outfit 1-0 courtesy of a penalty by Pillars captain, Ali Rabiu in the 77th minute of the tough but exciting match.

Both sides fought for the points from the blast of the whistle in the Northern derby hoping to carry the day but they were let down by poor creativity and wayward finishing.

Speaking immediately after the match, Kano Pillars chairman said, “i feel satisfied with the victory. It was a good game, a tough game. It was always a tight match between Kano Pillars and Plateau United, at times they win at other times Pillars win.

“Today’s match was a lackluster performance by Kano Pillars compared to our last game against Katsina United at home and Nasarawa United away but I hope the performance would ginger us for our next match against Enyimba in Aba.”

Plateau United Head Coach, Abdullahi Maikaba in his post match comment said both sides played well but the officiating was poor. “It was a good game but the officiating was so poor. There were offside plays which the referee refused to call but the penalty he gave was no penalty at all it was the player that was pulling my player. And we had better ones that were not given.”

For Kano Pillars Technical Adviser, Emmanuel Lionel Soccoia, it was a good encounter and a good home win. “Today, Kano Pillars played well. We have no too much opportunity but we have an opportunity to win. Its a good win. I’m very happy.

“We were tired. We traveled from Nasarawa to Kaduna after our weekend match, so we were tired and the next game is against Enyimba in Aba this weekend. This is our second game at home and second win at home, so I’m happy. The players gave their best. It was a clear penalty there is no problem with that,” the Brazilian gaffer added.

In other match day 4, Akwa United hold Kwara United in Ilorin while Dakkada and MFM ended their tie at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in one-goal a piece.
