NPL Super 6: Remo stars not desperate to win – Soname

Proprietor of Remo Stars, Kunle Soname was his very usual calm self at the Onikan Stadium on Wednesday when his club faced Sunshine Stars in the NPFL Super 6 South West derby.

Soname before the game told whoever cared to listen at the VIP box that his team is not desperate to win the NPFL title or to pick a continental ticket.

Unlike his team, he noted that the other five teams in the race, owned by different state governments are desperate because they know what to expect for not winning.

“In Remo we are not desperate because we are not here to win at all cost to avoid being sacked…nobody will sack us win or lose.

But government clubs, its a different story, you want to win by all means to avoid being sacked for wasting tax payers money. This is the difference, nobody will sack win or lose. We are in the game to add value, to develop it, to develop talent and make the fans happy. The agenda is not to win at all cost…”

Soname’s boys were forced to a 1-1 draw by Sunshine a result that still puts his side in contention for either the title or a continental ticket.

Remo it is recalled were in the continent this term but crashed out early after losing to FAR of Morocco in the knockout stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
