NPM urges hitch-free elections

The National Progressive Movement (NPM) has urged that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the hitches and hiccups that led to the postponement of the February 16 polls are effectively handled and resolved to pave way for credible elections.

Its national president Akachukwu Moses in a press statement issued Wednesday in Abuja said Nigerians should come out en masse on Saturday to exercise their franchise by electing candidates of their choice in the presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives polls.

“INEC has enormous responsibility to ensure the elections are free and fair, and provide level playing field to all candidates and their political parties participating in the general elections.

“The will and mandate of the people must be respected as power resides in the people. Any attempt to thwart the people’s mandate in various polls must be resisted and ruthlessly dealt with by security agents as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Our constitutional democracy has come to stay and will be deepened by ongoing electoral process. It is a national duty that will take Nigeria to the next level.

“We also urge various candidates to accept the outcome of the elections in good faith in tandem with the peace accords they signed.

“All hands must be on deck to ensure that the hitches and hiccups that led to the postponement of the February 16 polls are effectively handled and resolved to pave way for credible elections. This will go a long way to strengthen our fragile democracy,” he said.
