The Kwara state governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has congratulated professor of political science, Hassan Saliu on his emergence as the President Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA), noting that leadership will deepen debate around various issues of governance, development, and social justice.

In a press statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, recently described Prof. Hassan Saliu choice as timely, befitting and well-thought.

Prof. Saliu was elected President of NPSA at the just-concluded 33rd annual conference of the body held at the University of Ilorin.

“His Excellency congratulates Prof. Saliu on this remarkable feat and for bringing the national secretariat of political scientists in Nigeria to our dear state for the next couple of years. On behalf of the people and government of our State, the Governor salutes Prof. Saliu, the Department of Political Science, and the University of Ilorin for the success of the just-concluded 33rd annual conference of NPSA,” according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye.

Continuing, the statement read “The emergence of the erudite scholar as NPSA’s president could not have come at a better time. Professor Saliu’s contributions to national and international discourse on issues of international relations, foreign policy, public policy, security and conflict management, environment, political economy, and good governance are indelible and outstanding.

“Today, our country requires unambiguous, temperate, and patriotic analysis of political issues such that everyone is clear about the rules of the game and the fact that politics, political parties and government exist to build a society that caters for the needs of all, and not just the privileged few. We have no doubt that Professor Saliu’s leadership of NPSA will deepen debate around various issues of governance, development, and social justice.

“The Governor urged the new leadership of NPSA to continue to use the platform to promote healthy political debate and good governance in Nigeria, and to lead bold but patriotic conversations on issues threatening national cohesion and security.

“His Excellency urges the new leadership of NPSA under Prof. Saliu to reassert the presence of the association and promote the interest of its members at global stage through the International Political Science Association (IPSA) and at national level. He wishes Prof. Saliu and the entire leadership of NPSA had a successful tenure”.
