NRM sacks National Chairman, organising secretary, others over gross misconduct

The National Rescue Mission (NRM), one of Nigeria’s political parties has sacked the National Chairman of the party, Amb. Isaac Chigozie Udeh, and the National Organising Secretary, Mohammed Dirisu Isah.

The two key officers of the party were booted out over what the party in a statement described as gross misconduct.

The party reportedly took the decision at its 2nd quarterly statutory meeting held on Sunday.

Others that suffered similar fates are; Olushola Afuye and Shedrack Itang Oka who were hitherto the National Publicity Secretary and the National Treasurer respectively.

Consequently, the party NEC has appointed in their stead Alhaji Buba Mohammed as the new Acting National Chairman of the party, Barrister Obidike Okolo, as National Secretary, Dr. Saidu Gumau, National Treasurer, Mr Ojukwu as the new National Organising Secretary and Mr. Lawrence Cole Okwara as the National Deputy Chairman South.

Some of the allegations tagged ‘misconduct’ against the sacked officials according to the statement borders on alleged forgery, fraud, extortion and misappropriation of funds.

The statement reads partly: “The National Executives Committee of NRM on 18th July, 2022 in an emergency meeting suspended the National Chairman of the party, Amb. Isaac Chigozie Udeh and the National Organizing Secretary, Mohammed Dirisu Isah over gross misconduct.

“Others are Olushola Afuye, the National Publicity Secretary and Shedrack Itang Oka, the National Treasurer have been suspended at the NEC meeting of 12th August 2022,”

The embattled party officials’ party source told this medium allegedly manipulated the forgery.

The source was quoted as saying: “Even though the ten day substitution period as stipulated by INEC has elapsed, they (the dismissed officials) still went ahead to forge the Presidential candidate signature and presented it ten days after the deadline by INEC as regulated.”

Meanwhile, the case has been filed at the court and steps are being taken to address the issue.
