NRM suspends Chairman, Scribe

The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has suspended its National Chairman, Senator Saidu Dansadau, and National Secretary, Chinedu Odenyi, for six months over alleged involvement in anti-party activities.

A meeting attended by 25 state chairmen, deputy national chairman, deputy national secretary, national youth leader and national welfare officer in Abuja which deliberated on a report by some party chairmen detailing the alleged involvement of the two party leaders in various anti-party activities, decided to ratify the report and apply the stipulated disciplinary measure. The meeting approved that the deputy national chairman and the deputy national secretary take over from the suspended officers.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, Engr Solomon Gokas explained that Senator Dansadau was indicted in the chairmen’s report for declaring that the NRM has no presidential candidate after the name of Usman Ibrahim was affirmed, endorsed and forwarded to INEC as NRM presidential candidate. Senator Dansadau was also indicted for openly campaigning for the APC presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, ignoring protests of NRM leaders.

Gokas also recalled that Dansadau had been holding meetings with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar without any consultation or respect for the rights of the leaders and generality of party members. He added that the suspended chairman had been conducting affairs of the party as a personal business where his interest is final. He said as a registered national party with a constitution, the National Rescue Movement (NRM) could not be reduced to a family affair or the private business of its chairman.

He said the NRM presidential candidate, Usman Ibrahim Alhaji, had since flagged off his campaign in Birnin Kebbi soon after launching the “Not Too Poor To Run” national campaign to mobilise responsible citizens, especially youths, to get involved in politics and not be deterred by financial limitations.
