NSCDC arrests lady for dumping newborn baby in a sack


The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command said they have arrested a lady, indegine of Benue state, for dumping a baby boy in a sack after delivery.
The commandant of the command, Mr Patrick Ukpan stated this while parading Ms Joy Ejeh before newsmen at the command headquarters in zone 5, Wuse, Abuja  Wednesday.


The commandant expressed satisfaction over the intelligent unit team of the command for carry out investigation and arrested the lady.
He said the lady was arrested at Lokongoma area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at about 3pm local time  Wednesday, after information reached the intelligent unit of the command, that a lady delivered a baby boy and packaged him in a sack and thrown him over the fence, adding that the baby was rescued and taken to National Hospital for care.


Upon interrogation, Ejeh told newsmen that she was forced to throw the baby away due to lack of care for herself and the baby, after she discovered that the man, Johnson, a native of Enugu state that impregnated her ran away.
She appealed to Nigerians and to forgive her for the action she took saying:  “People and God should forgive me.  I have offended everyone. It was the condition and nobody to care for me and my baby. That is why I decided to throw the baby away. But I regret my action.


“If the government can help me recover my baby, am ready to work for them and at the same time take care of my baby,” she said.
