NSCDC commends FCT residents over peaceful elections

The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commended residents of the territory for their orderly conduct during Saturday’s area councils’ election.

Speaking with newsmen at the end of the election monitoring tour, FCT commandant of NSCDC Solomon Iyamu, commended the peaceful nature in which the residents conducted themselves during the elections.

Iyamu noted that the polls were generally peaceful, based on reports from field officers, adding that many residents actually came out to perform their civic duty of voting for their candidates.

He described the existing synergy between the NSCDC and other security agencies, such as the DSS, the Police, NDLEA, the Prisons Service and the Immigration as cordial, saying this contributed to the relative peace in the territory.

Our correspondent observed that the major challenge experienced on Saturday during the council election was low turn-out of voters due to apathy.
