NSE: Bears return as equity market sheds N60bn

Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday returned to bearish trend, with the market capitalisation losing N60 billion.

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities declined by 0.46 per cent to N13.558 trillion from N13.621 trillion reported on Monday.

The NSE All Share Index also depreciated by 129.79 basis points to 27820.57 points from 27950.36 recorded the previous day.

Investors traded 155.213 million shares valued at N2.230 billion in 3192 deals against a total of 93.112 million shares worth N1.108 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 3056 deals.

A breakdown of the trading activities durig the day showed that Julius Berger led gainers table gains N0.65 kobo to close at N18.75 kobo, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc followed with a gain of N0.21 kobo to close at N4.30 kobo, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria appreciated by N0.20 kobo to close at N11.95 kobo, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc added N0.20 kobo to close at N10.80 kobo, Lafarge Wapco Plc increased by N0.20 kobo to close at N14.60 kobo.

Nestle Nigeria Plc on the contrary, topped losers chart, declining by N10.50 kobo to close at N1299.50 kobo, Nigerian Breweries trailed with a loss of N5.00 to close at N55.00, Dangote Flour Nigeria Plc down by N0.30 kobo to close at N19.30 kobo, Guaranty Trust Bank dropped by N0.20 kobo to close at N28.50 kobo while FBNHoldings sheds N0.10 kobo to close at N6.30 kobo.

The result further showed that Guaranty Trust Bank was the most active stock during the day, exchanging 23.273 million shares valued at N640.114 million, United Bank for Africa (UBA) followed with account of 21.234 million shares valued at N123.792 million, Zenith Bank Plc sold 14.972 million shares cost N276.291 million, FBNHoldings traded 12.052 million shares cost N67.534 million while African Insurance sold a total of 10.000 million shares valued at N2.000 million.
