NSE: Equities market dips by N77bn


Trading on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange  (NSE) Wednesday sustained its downward trend, shedding N77 billion.

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities declined by 0.56 per cent to N13.666 trillion from N13.743 trillion reported the previous day.

The NSE All Share Index also depreciated by 158.08 basis points to 28042.80 points from 28200.88 traded on Tuesday.

Investors traded 243.717 million shares valued at N3.887 billion in 3449 deals against 217.132 million shares worth N1.799 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 3595 deals.

A review of transactions during the day showed that UAC of Nigeria Plc led gainers table, appreciating by N0.10 kobo to close at N5.90 kobo, A.G.Leventis followed with a gain of N0.03 kobo to close at N0.33 kobo, Chams Plc increased by N0.02 kobo to close at N0.27 kobo, Courteville gained N0.01 close at N0.22 kobo while Mutual Benefit Assurance added N0.01 kobo to close at N0.21 kobo.

On the contrary, Nestle Nigeria Plc recorded the highest loss during the day, shedding N5.00 to close at N1245.00 kobo, Julius Berger trailed with a loss of N1.95 kobo to close at N18.00, Guinness Nigeria Plc fell by N1.50 kobo to close at N46.00, Unilever Nigeria Plc down by N1.00 to close at N32.00 while Flour Mills Nigeria Plc dipped by N0.60 kobo to close at N14.00.

The result further showed that Guaranty Trust Bank Plc was the most active stock during the day, exchanging 77.510 million shares valued at N2.269 billion, FBNHoldings followed with account of 29.467 million shares cost N163.770 million, United Bank for Africa traded 13.642 million shares cost N76.504 million, Zenith Bank Plc sold a total of 13.283 million shares worth N247.415 million while Lasaco Insurance exchanged 11.301 million shares valued at N3.923 million.
