Benue state Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom, yesterday received an award from the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for the amnesty programme initiated by his administration.
Outgoing Zonal Director of the Authority, Mr. Ishaya Adamu, presented the award to the Governor at the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi.
Adamu said with enhanced peace which the amnesty programme had guaranteed, staff of the media house could go about their duties without fear of molestation, stressing that the development had enhanced their performance.

He said the award would have been presented to the governor during the 2015 Christmas Carol, but that he was unavoidably absent.
Governor Ortom expressed appreciation for the award, saying it would encourage him to do more to secure lives and property in the state.
He commended Adamu for what he described as his “meritorious service” to the NTA leading to his retirement with honour.
“It is rare for people to serve for a long period and retire honorably as many are either dismissed or retired compulsorily,” he said.
In another development, Governor Ortom has described the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) as the “pillar of unity” for the people of the North.
He stated this when he received a delegation from the forum led by Col. John Uba (retd), the organisation’s secretary-general.
The group came to pay a condolence visit on the demise of Tor Tiv IV, Dr. Alfred Torkula.

He urged the people of the North to unite and fight to overcome common challenges which he listed as poverty, ignorance and disease.
The secretary-general had described the death of Tor Tiv, who he said was a foundation member of the organisation, as “a big loss” and prayed that God would give the government and people of Benue state the fortitude to bear the loss.
