NTI trains 149 head teachers, school administrators on academic leadership

The National Teachers’ Institute Kaduna has trained 149 head teachers and school administrators across the country on academic leadership, the Institute’s Director of Field Operations and Students’ Services, Malam Yakubu Akaaba Momoh, has said. 

Akaaba told journalists in his office, at the weekend, that the training took place between July 9 and 11, 2019 in six states nationwide, with each state and the FCT, having four participants, with the exception of Niger state, which had five participants. 

“The training took place in six locations across the country namely, Bayelsa, Abia, Ogun, Jigawa, Adamawa and Niger states, with each training centre managed by at least a director from the Institute. 

“The objective of the programme is to put the participants in proper shape and train them on how to coordinate activities in their schools. 

“It is intended to train them on how to manage and keep school records and how to involve the community in managing the school system. All for the purpose of enhancing effective school learning. 

“Due to the diverse background of the pupils, it became necessary to train the head teachers and school administrators the strategy of managing and harmonising the pupils, to achieve the desired objective,” Akaaba said. 

The NTI Director of Field Operations and Students’ Services commended the NTI Director General and Chief Executive, Prof. Garba Dahuwa Azare, for giving priority to capacity development of teachers generally. 

Akaaba said the programme was successful in all the six centres across the country where it was conducted.

The programme, which was supervised by the Institute’s Council members, also had officials from the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) and Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, who monitored the training.
