NTI trains 876 teachers on digital literacy, HIV/AIDS awareness

National Teachers Institute (NTI) has commenced nationwide training for 876 primary and junior secondary school teachers on digital literacy, HIV/AIDS awareness and morality under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Director-General/ Chief Executive Offi cer of the Institute, Prof. Dahuwa Garba Azare said that the choice of teachers for the training workshop is key as they are the catalysts of change in every dynamic society.

He said: “In keeping with the tradition of the workshop over the years, we always commence with the conventional workshop which principally deals with the thematic areas before taking on these components that are woven around emerging issues of our times.

“These segments of the workshop are very signifi cant as they seek to address trending issues that generate a lot of interests in our education sector today. I feel very happy with the twin themes of HIVH/AIDS and digital literacy; both of them are very germane to the global agenda of ensuring good health for all and creation of digital citizens of the world.” New Chairman of the NTI Governing Council, Sen. Kaka Yale, who declared the worship open, emphasised the importance of the workshop to teaching and development of the country. He urged the participants to justify the confidence reposed on them by their employers by serving as role model for positive change.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope Adefulire, in her remarks, said her office had recognised the crucial role of teachers in the attainment of SDGs goal four by ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. Adefulire, who was represented by the Desk Officer Education, SDGs office, Dr Ifeyinwa Ukaegbu, said the SDG capacity building programme for teachers had been designed to enhance the capacity of public school teachers.

“My office is indeed proud of NTI and will continue to support the institute to improve their quality of education in Nigeria, as we will not leave anyone behind,” she said.
