NUC lauds Niger varsity on quality undergraduate programmes

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has lauded Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, (IBBUL) on the high quality of undergraduate programmes and learning facilities in the institution which the commission said were in line with its Basic Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS).

The commission gave the commendations during assessment visit to the institution, Friday in Lapai, by NUC assessment team leaders.

Blueprint Weekend reports that a former Vice-Chancellor, Delta State University, Professor Victor Peretomode, led the team for Counselling Psychology; Professor Ntobi Joseph Umial Edem headed the Geology and Mining team, while Professor  Gabriel Ifanyi Okafor lead the Food Science and Technology team from the commission.

Other team leaders included: Professor Benjamin Ndomi, Agriculture Education; and Professor Ibrahim Galadima who led the assessment team for Mathematics and Biology Education programmes.

Addressing the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, the NUC team leaders applauded the efforts of the university management for providing state-of-the-art facilities in the institution to facilitate teaching, research and learning activities.

Responding, Professor Adamu thanked the teams for being fair and objective in their assessments, noting that the exercise was a good opportunity for the university to upscale its facilities in line with BMAS of NUC, in order to produce graduates that could favourably compete with their colleagues everywhere around the world.

He said, “I want to assure you that the management would look into recommendations made by each team with a view to implementing them, all deficiencies pointed out would be rectified by making sure that quality and standards are not compromised.”
