NUJ begins democracy dividend tour from Zamfara

Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), will today begin its democracy dividend tour from Zamfara state, being the state of the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Yari.

A statement by the National Secretary of the union, Shuaibu Usman Leman, yesterday in Abuja, said the media tour was part of the mandate of the NUJ to monitor governance on behalf of the people.

Leman said the tour would see journalists on the team inspecting development strides of each state governors as well as an interactive session where the governors would answer critical questions.

“This tour is part of effort of the NUJ to deepen democracy and seeing first-hand what development strides are going on in each state of the federation.

“We expect that the journalists will be able to report, based on what they find on ground, to the people of the state and Nigerians at large.

“This is not a sort of test or examines rather to see how we can engage with the various state governments and set an appropriate agenda of development,” the statement said.

He further stated that the choice of Zamfara as the starting point is as a result of Governor Yari being the first among equals and for him to set the pace for other states to follow.

The NUJ national scribe said that journalists will be drawn from broadcast, print and online media.
