NUJ congratulates Lalong, urge him to revamp state owned media

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau state council has congratulated, Governor Simon Bako Lalong, on his second inauguration as Governor of the state.

The NUJ in made the felicitation in a press release signed by chairman Paul Jatau and Secretary Peter Amine, Thursday in Jos.

They urged him to use his second tenure to revamp the state owned media that have been comatose for a while.

The statement reads in parts: “The reward for hard work, it is often said is more work and we believe that you will make the most of this second opportunity given to you by  God and the good people of  Plateau to change the fortunes of the State.

“While the NUJ felicitates with and wishes you well on your second coming, the Council wishes to draw your attention to the prolong neglect of state government owned media outfits- the Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC) and the Plateau Publishing Corporation, publishers of the Nigerian Standard Newspaper.”

They said, the media is known the world over to be a vital instrument for the propagation of government programmes and its neglect is not only sad but counterproductive.

“The NUJ, therefore, appeals to you to give the media houses some attention so that they can regain their pride of place as you work to consolidate the gains of your first tenure,” they said.

They assured the governor that they would do the needful to support his programmes, adding that but it will not hesitate to draw his attention where he is found to have veered off the track.
