NUJ declares 3 days of mourning for late Benue Chairperson

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed sadness over the death of the Chairperson, NUJ Benue Chapter, Victoria Asher, which sad event occurred Saturday in Makurdi.

The Union in a press statement by  NUJ, Assistant National Secretary, Midat Joseph, in Abuja, said: “The National Secretariat of the NUJ received with sadness the news of the sudden death of the Benue State Council Chairperson, Mrs Victoria Asher, who  died this morning at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, Benue state from child birth complications.

“To this end, the NUJ, National President, Chief Chris Isiguzo, has declared a three day national mourning in honour of the deceased, starting from Monday, February 1, 2021.

“State Councils are advised to suspend all activities within the period in honour of Comrade Victoria Asher.

“According to the national secretariat, “The Late Chairperson will be remembered for her dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to the journalism profession.

“While mourning the passing away of our dear colleague, we pray for God to comfort  her  family, the media community as well as the Benue state Council.

Meanwhile, the Council in a press statement by the State Secretary, Moses Akarhan, announcing the passing of Comrade Asher, said: “The Council will give notice for an emergency Congress to that effect in due course.”
