NUJ FCT pays tribute to late colleague Azariah Kucha

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT  Council, Tuesday, held a service of songs in honour of its late colleague Azariah Kucha who died after a brief illness at the age of 64.

Colleagues, family members and friends gathered at the FCT Council Secretariat, Utako, to pay homage to their departed colleague.

In a sermon during the event, a colleague and former staff of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Reverend Reuben Okala harped on the need for media practitioners to dedicated to duty and imbibe the virtue of honesty while carrying out their duties.

Okala, who argued that it was possible for journalists to make heaven, urged them to ensure adequate plans for life after death.

Also speaking, Chairman NUJ FCT Mr Emanuel Ogbeche descried Kucha as a humble and thorough bred journalist, stating that his death would spur the union to resuscitate the NUJ insurance scheme, which he happens to be committee chairman.

In the same vein, the NUJ national president Christopher Eziguzo harped on the need for journalists to prepare for untoward situations by subscribing to the insurance scheme, noting that it was difficult for journalists to meet health and other needs on the salary and allowances.

High point of the event, which featured solemn songs and prayers for the deceased, his family, and the union was a candle light procession by leadership and members of the NUJ in honour of the 64-year-old.

Kucha retired four years ago from the FRCN.
